“Path Through the Woods”

I so enjoy a lovely hike on a wooded path! This scene is from a photo of the path near the parking area for the Overall Run Falls trail in the northern part of the Shenandoah National Forest. When rain has been abundant, the view of the 93′ waterfall at the overlook from this trail is spectacular!

“Open Arms”

Earlier this year, we visited our elder daughter who lives near Front Royal, VA. We took a ride on the northern section of Skyline Drive, which has the most beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley. This beautiful, old tree was still standing near one of the lookouts, and I was inspired to paint it.

“Boiling Springs Barn”

This watercolor is of an old, dilapidated barn that sits just outside the little college town of Boiling Springs, NC, a bit of the local scene near the university campus.

The roof is peeling apart, and the old truck has been sitting there for a very long time.

“Linville Gorge”

I recently completed this watercolor from a beautiful view I have enjoyed in Linville Gorge, in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina.  This old pine tree stood alone against the forces of nature for many years.

“Serenity”

In July 2021, I traveled to Maine with my family to explore Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor area. We stayed just off of Desert Island, and this view was part of the scenery along the road between our rental property and the entrance to the park.

This beautiful coastal meadow is a peaceful combination of pools, rocks, grass, and forests.

“Diggs Valley Road Barn”

There is a little traveled unpaved road in Loudoun County, VA, where this beautiful, historic barn is quietly deteriorating. I like the composition of this building, including the old stone, stucco, wood and rusting metal.

This watercolor I have recently completed will be included in the NC Watercolor Society’s annual exhibit in New Bern, NC, this October (2022).

“Bass Harbor Lighthouse” and “Maine Coast 2”

Our trip to Acadia National Park in Maine last summer was tremendously inspiring. Such beautiful scenery along the coastline! I completed this large oil painting of the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, and am really pleased with the result. This lighthouse is located on Bass Island and is a historic lighthouse right on the edge of the rugged, rocky Maine coast. The parking lot at this site is quite small, so tourists need to arrive early to have a space to be able to take in the views here. And it’s worth it!

“Melting”

Leading up to the holiday season, I enjoy painting a beautiful winter scene and use it for the cards I mail to friends and family. This one is a scene from Yellowstone National Park when we visited one June when there was still snow pack hanging around, melting slowly.

“Maine Coast”

The New England coast does not have sandy beaches like we enjoy in North Carolina, but jumbled, rough outcroppings of granite. This scene is from Acadia National Park, near Bar Harbor, Maine.

“Mountain Creek”

I so enjoy hiking along a mountain creek, where streams are strewn with rocks that are often moss-covered because of the dampness and the shade from overhanging trees. There is something incredibly peaceful listening to the sound of the water spilling over the stones. I am always inspired!
