Happy Endings

I was very happy to successfully deliver “Yacht Island, Lake Lure, NC” to the individuals who commissioned this piece. A VERY good day!

“Yacht Island, Lake Lure, NC” Commission

I have recently completed a really large project … a 40 X 32″ oil on canvas commissioned piece that is such a beautiful view of a part of Lake Lure. This was a big endeavor, but I enjoyed working on step by step. One of the things I like about this work is watching a painting come to life as I complete each section. And of course, on a painting this large, it is a tremendous feeling of accomplishment when I complete the final steps.

Each winter I hope our area will get luck and we’ll have some snow and true winter weather. I recently painted this scene from a photo my husband took last winter when it was cold enough to snow and freeze the local pond. We really enjoyed our winter walk that day!

“Stone Mountain Cabin”

I’ve recently completed a new watercolor, “Stone Mountain Cabin”.  This is an original pioneer farm home preserved in Stone Mt. State Park in NC as part of a model 19th century farm with a barn and other outbuildings.

Stone Mt. State Park watercolors

I’ve recently finished two watercolor paintings, inspired by the beautiful scenery from trails I’ve hiked in the last year in the Stone Mountain State Park in Roaring Gap, NC. It’s just a beautiful area, and I have really enjoyed camping there!

“Clifftop”

I recently finished this watercolor. My husband and I have camped and done some wonderful hiking in the Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina, and this view was really inspiring!

“Indian Creek Falls”

I’ve just finished an oil on canvas, “Indian Creek Falls.” This image I painted from a photograph my husband Bob took this past year when we were hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains. This trail was so beautiful! I can’t decide which I liked better … this hike or painting the image of the lovely falls.

“Oconaluftee River” ~ completed watercolor

It’s finished and one of my biggest watercolor painting to date. It is so big, I began painting this with my paper on the floor because I couldn’t reach the top area when I had it laid out on my work table. I’m really happy with the results, and look forward to this one being a highlight of my display for my booth at the “Artisphere” in Greenville, SC May 10-12, 2019. In the meantime, I’ve got this piece displayed in my space at the Buffalo Creek Gallery, in Shelby, NC.

The Oconaluftee, located in the Great Smoky Mountains, is considered “sacred waters” by the Cherokee, and known as the “Luftee.” It is a beautiful, freestone river that drops 2,000 feet over 10 miles.

Biggest Watercolor Ever

With some quiet time during the holiday season, I’ve started a new, rather ambitious watercolor. It is so big, I had to start working on it on the floor with a drop cloth. Once I get farther down the paper, I’ll be able to put it on my table and reach everything for continued work. It is 35 x 28″ in size. I haven’t decided on a title yet, but it is the Oconoluftee river in Smoky Mountain National Park. I’m looking forward to the new year! Happy 2019 all!
